The annual event acknowledging the cultural pride for the Mexican-American Community. This celebration sponsored by the Irving I. Moskowitz foundation includes a girls soccer tournament, live Mexican bands, boxing shows, mariachis, carnival, ballet and Aztec dancers.
Serving over 1,000 families (approximately 5,500 individuals) weekly with groceries and vouchers, The Irving Moskowitz Foundation distributes:
The Foundation also pays all operating expenses for the Food Bank. Each visitor to the Food Bank receives produce, grains, canned goods, juice, yogurt, tortillas, and bread. No needy resident of Hawaiian Gardens is turned away, and registered clients of The Food Bank also receive weekly vouchers for use at a local grocery store.
The Food Bank is truly a cooperative effort with forty percent of the food distributed donated by the LA regional Food Bank, and the remaining 60% purchased by the Foundation.
The Moskowitz Foundation is the primary supporter of this initiative, as Dr. Moskowitz says "I remember growing up hungry, but I cannot sit idly by and watch children in our community grow up without food to eat." This initiative provides food to the hungry, as well as educational workshops, job development, computer classes and other important tasks.
The Irving Moskowitz Foundation's $100,000 donation enabled pool facilities to be open throughout the summer at no cost to local residents.
"I find Dr. Moskowitz to be a very honest and caring person who helps when others do not." - John F. Heckerman, Mayor, City of Hawaiian Gardens
